Magnolia Market - A Weekend in Waco, Texas
Howdy, friends! Sadly writing this post back in Oklahoma after quite the dreamy weekend in Texas! Daniel's parents gave us a "Weekend in Waco & Magnolia Market" wedding shower gift, and we finally got to go! I honestly had to choke back some tears when we pulled out of Waco because of how rejuvenating and just good this weekend was for us.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Magnolia Market or Fixer Upper (which I am sure is not many), I'll do some explaining! Chip and Joanna Gaines have a show on HGTV called Fixer Upper. Basically they fix up old houses for couples in the Waco, Texas area. Not only do they have incredible taste, but they are just down home, great great people. They are strong believers, represent good parenting, and are an incredible example considering what is on tv these days.
They opened up an enormous market in Waco called Magnolia Market where Joanna displays and sells a ton of the items she uses in the show. She recently created her own line of home goods, and I actually bought one of her new rugs this weekend!! At the market, you can shop, eat at the food trucks, swing, hula hoop, drink coffee and eat cupcakes at the Silos Bakery (Joanna's latest endeavor - pictures below), and have plain ole good family time on the lawn. I told my husband it felt like adult Disney world & Young Life camp.
This weekend was the big Silobration weekend, celebrating being open at The Silos for one year!! They hosted tons of outside vendors, many being fair trade vendors to sell their goods. In the evening, there was an hour with Chip and Joanna and a concert afterwards with Johnnyswim (if you don't know their music, you need to!) The evening was pure bliss - fall crisp air, incredible pad thai, warm coffee, Johnnyswim, wonderful family atmosphere - just perfect.
Chip and Joanna had a chance to share their heart behind starting Magnolia Market, for hoping to create a space for people to just enjoy being together -- they even asked us to all put away our phones so we could be present with whoever we came with. It was just too good to explain. You can learn more about their story in their book that releases this month! You can preorder here!
One of Chip and Joanna's favorite coffee shops that they mention all the time on the show is Common Grounds. Watch the video on their site, and you'll get why this is such a dream place! It's located on Baylor's campus, and it have the cutest mix matched porches and rooms where students study and people come an hang out. I had just silkiest, smoothest almond milk latte I have ever had on the way out of town! 10 stars all the way!
